How To Tame The Cobra Of Fear (Part One)

queen-bee-face1What is fear?

Fear is simply an emotionally charged response to perceived danger. Take careful note now, I wrote ‘perceived danger’.

What do I mean by that?

Let’s look at Bungee Jumping. It’s pretty easy to understand how people could develop a fear of flinging themselves off a structurally sound bridge attached only with a glorified rubber band tied on by some dude they just met. Especially after signing a form that says:

‘Sure, it’s okay if you kill me, all is forgiven.’

Do you think the ‘dude’ is in constant fear that he may kill every single person one after another? Doubtful. He uses a proven system that makes all the dangly volunteers bounce happily back up to the bridge and then go away.

What are the volunteer ‘gravity taunters’ afraid of then?

• The cord might break!
• What if the cord is too long!
• What if I slip out and fall in the river….I can’t swim….and there might be rocks….and frickin’ flying monkeys from Venus might steal my clothes when I get out to dry off!
• And so on and so on…

Feel free to add your own creative ideas, since that’s really what fear boils down to: how many horrifying things you can imaginemight happen to you.

Notice what what tense fear exists in. Is it in the past, present, or future?

If you said ‘future’, you’re right! Now, you may have had an experience in your past with bungee jumping that scared you pantless and you might be saying:

“But Garfield, ”

(Don’t you hate ‘buts’? What a waste of time!)

“But Garfield, that fear is in the past”. No, that ‘experience’ is in the past and you’re allowing it to create a possible outcome for the future….which you are afraid of.

Does the Future exist?

Nope. It’s a wide open canvas, folks.

Follow me now…..if fear only exists in the future, and the future doesn’t exist….does fear exist?

NO!!

We terrify ourselves daily with something that doesn’t even EXIST!

I know what you’re saying,

“Gee Wiz, Mr. Wizard, thanks a pant-load for the info, so why does non-existent fear grip me so tightly every time I’m about to call my prospects?”

For the answer to that query…stay tuned to this address!
